இனப்படுகொலையை நியாயப்படுத்தும் திட்டமிட்ட முயற்சி' என்பதைத் தவிர வேறு என்ன பதில் இருக்க முடியும்?

Sangakkara had just delivered the most important speech in recent cricketing history. The topic that he had chosen was something half the world was probably unaware of – “The story of Sri Lankan cricket.” A small South Asian island country in the India Ocean, it has always been in the global consciousness for its 30-year long civil war, its violent race riots and the one of the most dreaded terrorist groups The LTTE. Very few people in the world know anything about Sri Lanka apart from its violence and political turbulence. Those of us belonging to cricket playing countries have at least heard of Sri Lankan names beside V Prabhakaran and Mahinda Rajapakse, we know who Arjuna Ranatunga is, we know the contribution of Muttiah Muralitharan to cricket and we know that there is more to Sri Lanka than just ethnic conflict. Sangakkara strived to do just that, to highlight what Sri Lanka as a country is apart from its blooded history and political anarchy. His speech was more than just an address made in a cricket club, it was form of rebellion against the prevalent anarchy and corruption and a plea to resolve all conflict and restore the nation to its former pride.

He explained the important role played by cricket in rebuilding the war-torn country and why it was crucial that cricket was kept away from political or selfish motivations. Fearlessly he attacked the cricket Board and its greed for money, their elitist attitude and its politics. He expressed his concern that all this behind the scenes shenanigans were going to ruin cricket in his country and thereby ruin the pride and glory they derive from it. His sole aim was to protect cricket, which in his country occupied a place of pride as a “panacea that heals all wounds.”

இலங்கையில் விடுதலைப் புலிகளுக்கு எதிரான சண்டை எவ்வளவு கொடூரமாக முடிவுக்கு வந்தது என்பது அனைவருக்கும் தெரியும். பெண்கள், முதியவர்கள், குழந்தைகள் உள்பட அப்பாவித் தமிழர்களை இலங்கை ராணுவம் கொத்து குண்டுகளை வீசிக் கொன்றது. பிடிபட்டவர்களையும் சரணடைய வந்தவர்களையும் சித்திரவதை செய்தது. பெண்கள் பாலியல் பலாத்காரம் செய்யப்பட்டனர்.

எத்தனை ஆதாரங்களை வெளியிட்டாலும் அவையெல்லாம் போலி என்பது போலத் திரித்துப் பேசுகின்றனர். எல்லாம் தேச நலனுக்காகச் செய்யப்பட்டதுதான் என்பதுபோல புனையப்படுகிறது. தேச ஒருமைப்பாடு என்பதை இனப் படுகொலையை மறைப்பதற்காகப் பயன்படுத்திக் கொள்ளப் பார்க்கிறார்கள். இது போர்க்குற்றங்களில் இருந்து தப்பித்துக் கொள்ளும் முயற்சி.

இலங்கை கிரிக்கெட் நிர்வாகத்தை குறைகூறுவதாகவே கவனிக்கப்பட்டது. அதை மட்டுமே பெரும்பாலான ஊடகங்கள் முன்னிலைப்படுத்தின. அதனால், அவரது பேச்சில் ஆங்காங்கே இலங்கை இனப்படுகொலையை நியாயப்படுத்தும் வசனங்கள் இருந்தது கண்டுகொள்ளப்படாமல் விடப்படுகிறது. 

இலங்கையின் வரலாற்றைப் பற்றிப் பேசிய சங்ககரா, கடந்த 30 ஆண்டுகளாக இருந்த பயங்கரவாதம் இப்போதுதான் முடிவுக்கு வந்திருக்கிறது என்று கூறி இலங்கைத் தமிழர்களின் போராட்டத்தை ஒரே வரியில் கொச்சைப்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். ஏதோ நியாயமற்ற காரணங்களுக்காகவும் வளர்ச்சியைத் தடுக்கும் நோக்கிலுமே இந்தப் போராட்டங்களெல்லாம் நடந்ததாகக் கூறுவது போல அவரது பேச்சு இருந்தது.  

போரிலும் போருக்குப் பிந்தைய ராணுவ நடவடிக்கைகளாலும் சொந்தங்களை இழந்தவர்களின் நெஞ்சங்களில் ஆறாத வடு ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது. உடல் ஊனமாகி நடைபிணமாக வாழ வேண்டிய நிர்பந்தம் பலருக்கு ஏற்பட்டிருக்கிறது. இதெல்லாம் சங்ககராவின் நினைவில் இல்லை போலும்.போர் நடந்த பகுதிகள் மட்டுமல்லாமல் கொழும்பு போன்ற போர்முனைக்குச் சம்பந்தமில்லாத நகரங்களிலும் அப்பாவிப் பொதுமக்களைக் குறிவைத்து தற்கொலைப் படைத் தாக்குதல்கள் நடத்தப்பட்டன; குண்டுகள் போடப்பட்டன என்றுதான் அவர் குற்றம்சாட்டினார்.அதுபோலவே, பெரும்பாலான இடங்களில் பயங்கரவாதம், "பயங்கரவாதிகள்' என்கிற சொல்லையே இவர் பயன்படுத்தியிருக்கிறார். சரி, சங்ககராவிடம் இருந்து இதைத்தவிர வேறு என்ன எதிர்பார்க்க முடியும் என்று கேட்கலாம். எதிர்பார்க்க முடியாதுதான். ஆனால், அவரது பேச்சுக்கு தமிழர்கள் மத்தியிலிருந்து சலசலப்புகூட கிளம்பவில்லை.
